According to the Sunrise Movement, heat waves, floods, and hurricanes will become more frequent. By 2050, it’s predicted that 1.2 billion people will have to flee from their homes.
The Sunrise Movement wants to take action to prevent this nightmarish feature. The Sunrise movement is a group of young people fighting against the Trump administration “ We will use the climate crisis to expose Trump’s corruption and the billionaire agenda that is burning our homes and our futures to the ground for profit” They continue on to say that “We will transform public consciousness and spark the mass resistance that unions can harness to strike and reshape or society.” Sources continuing on from Ray Norton he states that “Smelling the pollution coming from Marathon and seeing the smoke and the fire on the freeway. I remember trying to hold my breath as long as I could, but eventually you have to breathe it in.” Ray also states that “ I know that the planet is on a path towards destruction and I know that it’s caused by the same people who produce the smells and smoke on the freeway.”
Mr. Norton has also stated that “Poor people, minorities, and young people like me, are facing violence and threats on our lives every day from a system that treats us like resources to be extracted.” Continuing on from Ray Norton he stated that “I was seeing videos of young people across the country going to their elected officials and demanding action on the climate and pollution. I was arrested with other activists for sitting in at Nancy Pelosi’s office and demanding a Green New Deal.”
According to the Sunrise Movement The Green New Deal is “ A world where communities don’t have to fend for themselves in times of crisis, but are instead provided resources and support to thrive. A world where young people aren’t trapped in fear and debt but are guaranteed education and the right to dream in safety.” Continuing on from the Sunrise Movement about The Green New Deal is “ A world where healthcare isn’t the business of a few, but a human right free and accessible to all.
A world where we don’t continue legacies of injustice against others but redress and heal them. Together we can win a world where work is fulfilling, where our water and air are clean and crisp, where the places we call home are here to stay, and the natural beauty of our earth is around for generations to come.” If you want the world that you deserve attend a Sunrise meeting near you.
