People all over the United States are affected by Trump’s decisions as president and in particular, his decisions about immigration and his order to ICE to arrest at least 1200 immigrants daily. Under the new Trump administration, immigration laws are constantly changing and this causes pressure to fall on immigrants facing uncertain futures. Even those who aren’t immigrants are affected as they either know immigrants or their families are immigrants.
“I feel like that shouldn’t be a thing. They shouldn’t be doing this to random immigrants because this can affect kids and make them want to kill themselves because their parents can be taken.” Hossainatou is an 11th grader who wasn’t born in America and her family are also immigrants. Hossainatou feels as if it isn’t fair that she has to worry about what might happen to her family especially knowing that ICE increased their daily arrest quota from 75 to 1100 plus. “This is important to me because I have family…that might get taken away from me”
People’s feelings towards this must be acknowledged. People not knowing whether or not the safety of their families is guaranteed is cruel. This goes to show that Trump is fixated and targeting immigrants when things like school shootings are still a major problem. “He said when someone is arrested in an ICE raid, they are taken to the Elizabeth Contract Detention Facility and processed, but family members frequently don’t know what has happened to their loved ones.” David Matthau (whyy.org) explains the extent of the cruelty of ICE raids. Families often aren’t even aware of their family being taken from them.
